MOUNTAIN BIKING: Watson Lake To Tahoe City

← CA TRUCKEE RIVER A BOCA BRIDGE TRUCKEE CA Single Tracks →

Description

This trail is strenuous. It is long and requires a good deal of climbing, and can be quite hot in the summer. There is steep, rocky terrain that includes technically challenging sections. It is know locally as the "Fiberboard Freeway." Starting at 7200', trail drops off towards Lake Tahoe with a mild 2 mile descent, then a moderately steep climb for 3 miles toward Tahoe City. A flat section around the lake turns to one of the most picturesque, and technical, descents to be found anywhere in the Lake Tahoe Basin. A little more climbing leads to another fun rolling descent, then up again to Painted Rock, and along the ridge and the clinking shale of Glass Mountain. The ride ends with a technical 4 mile descent to town, then a 2 mile cruise down the bike path to the Tahoe city trailhead. This portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) offers spectacular views of Lake Tahoe and some awesome technical singletrack.

Directions

From Truckee, take highway 267 until you reach the Brockway Summit sign that says the elevation. After the sign take the first right onto the skinny paved road.
